Inside We Hold the Light / Download song

Inside we hold the light of all people
Each path is like a river that carries us back home
We pray in different ways like colors of a rainbow
We call God by many names but his true name we don’t know

The Native People teach us how to love our mother earth
The Hindus teach that every living thing has sacred worth
From the Torah we learn to live according to the golden rule
From the Buddha we learn compassion and the 4 Noble Truths

Inside we hold the light of all people
Each path is like a river that carries us back home
We pray in different ways like colors of a rainbow
We call God by many names but his true name we don’t know

Christians teach us forgiveness, we make mistakes once in while
The Koran says if you have no gift then just give someone your smile
From the Sikhs we gain respect for everyone’s beliefs
From Lao Tzu we gain balance and that chi means energy

Inside we hold the light of all people
Each path is like a river that carries us back home
We pray in different ways like colors of a rainbow
We call God by many names but her true name we don’t know

Peace by Peace / Download Song

Some folks say they don’t believe
This world can be made right
That humanity is violent
And always going to fight
But once upon a time
People thought the world was flat
That you’d fall off of the edge
And somehow just go splat!

Chorus:
Peace by peace
One great goal
Heart by Heart
We’re going make this planet whole

There have been great leaders
Throughout history
Who had a dream that people
Cross this whole world could be free
Now it’s time for us to hold the torch

Ourselves and light the way
So those who are in need
Will soon see a brighter day

Chorus

Sometimes the world’s problems
Just seem to be so great
I’m just one little person
Doing too little too late
But let’s always remember
Every little bit does count
It’s going take a team
To turn this world around

Chorus

Couldn’t hear the music but loved the lyrics–you have a gift with words and a deep understanding of peace.

Just a thought — I know that it was very hard for me to go beyond the maleness image of God (as that was what was shared with me as a child) into the more unified, universal and non-anthropomorphized image that I hold today. I am glad to notice that you did include one verse which mentioned God as “her”, but notice, it is second which seems to me to quietly and unwittingly imply that the male image comes first to mind, and oh yeah, we should include a female pronoun too. If we truly want to teach children the oneness of God, may I suggest you think about changing the refrain to be:
“We call God by many names but God’s true name we don’t know” which scans quite nicely. I have the feeling that in your school the larger images of God are regularly shared, and thus the point I am making is addressed well enough. But the song is going out to the world, where this is definitely not the case. Just a thought.
